The short version

Recto does not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to any server we control. We don't know who you are, where you listen, or what you listen to. That's not a limitation — it's intentional.

Data stored on your device

To connect to your Plex Media Server, Recto stores your server URL and Plex authentication token locally on your device using iOS's secure Keychain storage. This data:

Recto also stores your listening progress, bookmarks, and preferences locally on-device. None of this data is shared with anyone.

Analytics and crash reporting

None. Recto includes no analytics SDKs, no crash reporting services, and no usage tracking of any kind. We have no visibility into how the app is used, how often, or by whom.

Third-party services

Recto may query the following public metadata services to enrich your audiobook library with author details, series information, and cover art:

These requests contain only audiobook identifiers (such as ASINs or ISBNs) — never your name, email address, device ID, Plex credentials, or any user-identifying information. Recto does not share your data with these services beyond what is strictly necessary to return metadata results.

Recto also connects directly to the Plex Media Server you own and operate. Plex is an independent service with its own privacy policy. Recto has no control over and no visibility into how Plex handles your data.

Children's privacy

Recto is a general-purpose audiobook player and is not directed at children under 13. Because Recto collects no personal data from any user, it does not knowingly collect data from children either.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. We'll always aim to be clear about what changed and why. Significant changes would be noted in the app's release notes as well.
